How many times we are in that mood, not a good one, when we don’t even know why we feel bad, and the first thing that crosses our mind is to eat or do something to get that quick high? To get that instant feel good moment?
Usually when this happens, we are low in dopamine (the pathway of pleasure – Harvard University 2021), and getting that high raises the dopamine levels, it feels good right? But how about when the feeling is only temporary, we keep going back to not feeling great and back to that habit or food, and guess what? We become addicted.
Dopamine is known as the feel-good neurotransmitter – a chemical that ferries information between neurons. The brain releases it when we eat food that we crave or while we have sex, contributing to feelings of pleasure and satisfaction as a part of the reward system. – Psychology today.
I created a list of ideas that can help you feel good without having to dive into self-destructive/addicted behavior. This list will be available to you, to make it permanent.
Doing one or two from this list will help you a lot. Start slow, step by step. You got this!
1 Recognize your moodiness, become aware and start asking yourself WHY? This is the first step, awareness is everything.
2 Move your body, instant jumping jacks is a great idea
3 Journaling, writing your feelings down is a way to prioritize your problems, fears and concerns, and recognize your triggers and identify negative thoughts.
4 Going for a walk in nature, being surrounded by nature gives you an instant mood boost, will raise your vibration
5 Hydrate yourself, when we hydrate we clear our minds and detoxify from our negative thinking.
6 Think about the ways you can improve yourself, changing your mindset, fixing your credit, and learning a skill. Take yourself seriously.
7 Do something your limited beliefs tell you is not possible, such push ups, or train for a marathon, or start something new such as a new career or business.
And lastly, focus on what you want, despite of what the outside circumstances are showing you.
Love,
Marita
